Verb Verse Poem

In preparation for my students to write their own poem, I located this idea: Verb Verse Poem
This was a great way for students to describe something. I found a Verb Song that we watched several times taking note of all the verbs mentioned. We also discussed the reasons for using it in writing. Before Spring Break, our class flew Kites thanks to a grant through Donors Choose. When I asked them to write about that experience, they asked if they could write a Verb Verse Poem for the Kites.

Kite Poem

These are pictures of the finished poems students wrote using the Verb Verse Poem format. We have a couple that still need to finish their Kites.

Too Busy! by Henslee

Too Busy

I folded all my laundry

And put it in the drawer.

I’ve changed the linens,

made my bed, and

swept my bedroom floor.

I’ve emptied the garbage

and fixed tomorrow’s lunch.

I’ve baked some cookies for dessert

And given dad a munch.

I’ve sharpened every one.

There are so many things to do,

When homework must be done!

My Dog is Silly by Kristopher Michael

My Dog is Silly

My dog is silly.

He ate his bowl.

He pooped in his cage.

He ate a bird.

He touched a jellyfish.

Then he hopped upside down.

My dog is silly.

Allena's Kite

Kite

I have a kite

Oh boy it’s a sight.

When the wind blows,

It sure does go.

It flips and dips

And it even does a figure eight.

It always goes straight.

Now it flies away

To a new day.

Spiders by Caitlin

Spider

I saw a spider on the wall.

I threw my dog’s tennis ball.

It took a funny fall!

It climbed up on the table,

and started watching cable.

Tonsils by Chrissa

Tonsils

Tonsils, tonsils

My brother has none.

Went to the doctor

to have no fun.

Tonsils, tonsils

They hurt so bad.

They’re gone, they’re gone

I’m so glad.

Let’s have some fun!

I saw a car.

I went behind bars

because I saw a car.

My Teacher took my Ice Cream by Juliana

My Teacher Took My Ice Cream

My teacher took my ice cream,

because I had it on my nose.

I had it in my hair

And I had it on my toes.

She said that I looked funny.

Mommy came and said,

“I’ll clean you honey.”

Silly Sally found a can of sugar on the sidewalk.

She sat on the sugar.

The can broke.

Silly Sally was sad.

Funny Body Parts by Jeremiah

Funny Body Parts

My eyes are red with swirls and circles.

My hair is red, white, and blue with stars and stripes.

My nose is green and black with dots.

My mouth is a rainbow with spots.

My eyes are brown and big.

My stomach is yellow with spots, and my legs are white with dots.

My Kite by Kole

My Kite

My kite flies in the sky

very high.

I wish Willie and Si could watch it fly.

It flies as high as a duck

in the sky.

My sister had a pimple

And my Mom got a needle

And she made it bleed.

POP! Went the pimple!
